Hmm, almost two weeks since my last update. Struck out with the dame. So be it.
Life is returning to normal (which is to say I spend most of my time sitting on my ass doing nothing). This can be great fun. Lately, while sitting on my ass, I've been reading Robert B. Parker's Spenser novels. Spenser is a very entertaining character. I got hooked by watching the A&E movie Small Vices, with Joe Mantegna as Spenser. He fit the role in a very unique way.
Yet at times I think Parker is getting too cute. Especially when he goes South. I realize that in a hard-boiled detective novel you are going to meet mostly unsavory characters, which is wholly appropriate. But lately, the characterizations of minor characters in the Spenser books have become more and more cartoonish. I'm pretty disappointed.
Well, the Big Fast (err, Great Lent) is wrapping up for the Orthodox, and I must say it's been fairly satisfying. I've benefited from the experience. It's been a fairly disciplined month and a half. This bodes well for me, as I am quintessentially undisciplined.
