Well, it's been a while since my last update, but I've been bust at work and lazy at home. Plus, I've laundry to do.

I saw Resident Evil yesterday afternoon (left work early, doncha know?) and it was pretty damn good. Violent, sexy, fast paced, and tense, but not particularly scary. And none of the zombies ever sad "BRAINS!" So it was only okay. I mean, it's hardly a work of cinematic art, but it's one of the better video game to screen translations I've seen. Oh, and the ending sets up continuity for Resident Evils 2-4. I hope the sequels get made, only with a better script. The dialogue was crap.

I've accepted a staff position at www.planetmedalofhonor.com. I'll be writing articles and editorials. No word on when my articles start going up, but I expect within days. I'm pretty excited, since this is part of getting more involved in the internet generation that I seem to belong to. Couple the staff position with my moderator job at Wargamer.com, and I've got a nice little sideline going.

My NCAA tournament picks are totally FUBAR, although I did pick Creighton over Florida, so I got that right. Most of the upsets I was wrong on, and since Ole Miss lost I really don't have the heart to stay in it anymore. Of course, the Blue and Gray didn't even make the tourney, and then they declined the NIT, so I'm a little washed out on college b-ball at the moment.

I continue to suspect that no one reads this blog. Can't really blame them, since there is no design, little content, and the blogmaster is a tool. Still, you gotta have hope. As John Lennon said, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me."

I'm currently digging deeply into new books I should have read a long time ago. On this list: anything written by George P. Pelecanos, Hagakure, The Book of Five Rings, Musashi, and John Adams. Doing well so far. About halfway done with Pelecanos's works, and delving into the rest as time permits. Also back to playing my favorite game of the past two months, Disciples II by Strategy First. Great game, great support.

Rap at ya later [gratuitous Onion reference].

Very much worn out. Partying all weekend is no longer as easy as it was a short year ago. There are probably several reasons for this: lack of regular exercise is definitely the top one. Saw quite a few friends that I hadn't seen in too long. Had a great time.

Unwittingly, I instigated a massive screaming flamewar at my favorite forum. Haven't yet figured out how to apologize or if I even should. I made some comments that were misunderstood (largely my fault) and that spiralled IN MY ABSENCE into an enormous verbal war. Some people are far too thick skinned. I guess I should have learned from the results of calling T.S. Eliot anti-Semitic (a documented fact, but okay, some people will apologize for anything). I'm still unclear why people should take my opinion so seriously; for all they know, I'm a barely functional member of society writing from a state mental institution. I am continually baffled why colloquies on the internet produce such strong reactions from those involved. Maybe the anonymity escalates the vehemence, because you don't have to look the person you're bashin in the eyes?

I guess the race to the bottom is inevitably visible, even when it's more apparent than real. And the internet certainly assists the race to the bottom, just as it produces a truly fine body of work (webcomics, parodic humor, and game communities). I'll think on an appropriate response for the forum issue (although the problem has been taken care of administratively, guilt remains).
